For the Love of Kamon

I loved making ‘For The Love of Kamon’. The twelve main blocks are based on Japanese family crests called ‘Kamon’. The characters in the four corners are Chinese for Love, hence the name, ‘For The Love Of Kamon’.

I cheated a little with border because the flowers are Jacobean, but done in very oriental material. I couched little gold cranes to fly amongst them. There are also gold cranes on the top and bottom borders. The Kamon blocks were taken from Kumiko Sudo’s book ‘Circles of the East’, the Jacobean flowers are adapted from ‘The Best of Jacobean Applique’ by Patricia B. Campbell and Mimi Ayars. The cranes are sashiko designs from Kitty Pippen’s books.

In 2007 ‘For the Love of Kamon’ toured four shows in the USA as part of the UK quilt team.

The quilt has won the following awards:

Quilts UK 2005
1st sampler quilt, 1st machine applique, visitors choice and the judges choice award.

Great Northern Quilt Show 2005
1st Machine applique, 1st machine quilting and a judges choice award.

Festival Of Quilts 2006
1st Machine quilting and leading UK amateur.
